英语说清时间都靠这个词 quarter

英语说清时间 ， 有一个很关键的词↓↓
Quarter
1. quarter
Quarter的意思是四分之一 ， 英语里真的很常用！

  • 用于时间：a quarter = 15 minutes
  • 用于钱：a quarter = 25 cents

表达时间 ， quarter怎么用？
  • a quarter past = 一刻
  • 【英语说清时间都靠这个词 quarter】a quarter till = 三刻
比如：
2:45
  • two forty five （直接读 ， 一般不要用o'clock）
  • a quarter till three
两个说法都可以
2:15
  • two fifteen
  • a quarter past two
总结一下：
基本上 ， 时间有两种说法：
1. 直接读数字：two forty five, two twenty
记住当中不要加o'clock 。O'clock只有整点才需要用 。
几点零几分：two o five, 小时和分钟中间加个字母O.
2. 碰到几刻 ， 用quarter：
但是需要past或者till介词连接
比如quarter past ten (10:15), quarter till eleven (10:45)
大家多练几遍！
几点半怎么说？
同样 ， 两种方法：
1. XXX + thirty
比如8:30: Eight thirty
2. Half
一般用half的时候 ， 我们可以用half past XX
比如8:30
  • half past eight
小总结：
＊用half的时候 ， 千万别忘了past!＊
想想两点半怎么说？>>> Half past two
或者Two thirty.
和quarter不同 ， half只会用于half past, 而不是half till 。
整点怎么说？
1. On the dot:整点
It's six on the dot. 现在是六点整 。
I'll be there seven on the dot. 我会七点整到那里 。
这个说法特别突出准时的概念 。
2. O'clock: 点
It's six o'clock.
It's seven o'clock.
3. Just say the number: 直接说数字It's six.
It's seven.
非整点怎么说？
这里还是有些文化差异↓↓
In Chinese, we are quite precise with our time telling：中文描述时间经常会说得很精确
We'd say the exact time: 我们会把确切的时间 ， 几点几分说出来
In English, you don't usually say right to the minute, often you just say "It's just past..." 在英语里 ， 不太确切说几分 ， 大家经常说 “现在刚过……”
比如8:33
  • eight thirty three是确切的说法
  • 但是很多人会说：it's just past eight thirty. 8点半刚过一点
a.m. p.m.从何而来？
a.m.和p.m.都是拉丁语 （Latin)
a.m. = ante meridiem 上午
p.m.= post meridiem 下午
ante = before
post = after
meridiem = midday
24小时制: 美国人很陌生
The 24- hour o'clock scale：24小时制
We don't use 24-hour o'clock: 在美国不太用24小时制
Unless you are in the military: 除非是军队
We actually call it “military time”：我们确实是把24小时制称为军队时间
那怎么读呢？
21：00 = twenty one hours
Hour要用复数

1. 直接读
  • It's five. = 5:00 （注意 ， 不需要用o'clock）
  • It's five o five. = 5:05 (注意 ， 英语中几点零几分的“零”要读成英语字母“o”）
  • It's five thirty. = 5:30
2. xx past xx 几点过几分
  • It's five past five. = 5:05
  • It's a quater past five. = 5:15
  • It's half past five. = 5:30
3. xx till/to xx 差几分几点
  • It's five till five. = 4:55
  • It's a quarter till five. = 4:45
美国人算时间更烧脑！
美国有N个不同的时区(Time zones)
In the lower 48 states, we have four time zones. 我们的48个州（除去阿拉斯加和夏威夷州 ， 因为这两个州不在本土）一共有4个时区
  • Eastern time zone (EST) 东部时间 。东岸的时区 ， 包括纽约、华盛顿等地方 。
  • Pacific time zone (PST) 太平洋时间 。西岸的时区 ， 包括洛杉矶、西雅图等地方 。
  • Central time zone (CST) 中部时间 。中部偏东一点点 ， 包括了芝加哥、休斯顿等地方
  • Mountain time zone (MST)山区时间 。中部偏西一点点 ， 包括了丹佛、凤凰城等地方（这些地方都分布于落基山脉 ， 所以称为山区时间） 。
除了时区 ， 美国还保留了夏令时 (Day light saving )
和中国不同 ， 美国还保留了夏令时 。夏天的时候要把钟调快一个小时 。
In the U.S., day light saving starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. 美国的夏令时开始于3月的第二个星期天 ， 结束于11月的第一个星期天 。
When it ends, you should turn your clock back. 结束时 ， 你要把钟调回来
For instance, the eastern time zone is 12 hours behind China when it's in summer: 比如美国东部时间 ， 夏天比中国晚12个小时
But it's 13 hours behind China when it's in winter: 而冬天比中国晚13个小时
跟美国人约时间 ， 请注意：
  • 搞清对方在哪个时区 ， 各个时区和中国的时差完全不一样呢 。
  • 留意有没有夏令时 ， 这时候时间也不同 。
    • 最后 ， 时差带来的不便利 ， 可以沟通解决 。比如Jenny以前和美国打电话 ， 对方说的时间自己都会接受 ， 哪怕是半夜三更 。
    但后来 ， 她发现直接跟对方说一下 ， "Let's try to find a time that works for both of us."是很好的解决方法！
